March is a time to reflect, honor, and celebrate the women who have shaped history -
and in today’s world, that includes the women shaping our digital future. As someone
who works at the intersection of community, storytelling, and digital spaces, I see
firsthand how powerful that impact can be. From coding and design to data, media, and
innovation, women in tech continue to break barriers, create space, and redefine what
leadership looks like.
At Digital Women Kansas City (DWKC), we believe that technology is more than a
career path - it’s a platform for connection, creativity, and change. This Women’s History
Month, we’re highlighting not only the achievements of women in tech, but also the
stories, resilience, and impact behind them.
Breaking Barriers, Creating Pathways
The tech industry hasn’t always been inclusive - and for many women, it still doesn’t feel
that way. Even so, women have consistently found ways to enter, lead, and transform
the space. Many have navigated challenges such as underrepresentation, limited
access to resources, and lack of mentorship - yet continue to rise and bring others with
them.
Breaking barriers doesn’t always look like a major headline. Sometimes, it looks like:
Learning a new digital skill later in life
Transitioning into tech from a non-traditional background
Speaking up in rooms where your voice hasn’t always been heard
Mentoring another woman just starting her journey
These moments may seem small, but they take courage - and they matter more than
we often realize. These everyday actions are what truly move the industry forward.
Inspiring Women in Tech
Across Kansas City and beyond, women are making an impact in digital spaces in ways
that are innovative, collaborative, and community-driven.
The Career Switcher: Women who enter tech from backgrounds like education, healthcare, or the arts - bringing fresh perspectives and human-centered thinking into digital work.
The Builder: Developers, designers, and creators who are building platforms, tools, and businesses that solve real-world problems.
The Connector: Community leaders and organizers who use digital platforms to bring people together, share knowledge, and open doors for others.
Each path looks different, but they all share a common thread: growth, resilience, and a
willingness to learn.
Why Representation Matters
Seeing women in tech matters - especially for those who may not yet see themselves in
these roles. Representation creates possibility - sometimes it’s the first moment
someone realizes, “this could be me too.”
At DWKC, we are committed to creating a community where women feel supported,
encouraged, and equipped to grow in their digital careers. Whether you’re exploring
your first step into tech or expanding your expertise, you are not alone in the journey.
Looking Ahead: Building Together
Women’s History Month is not just about looking back - it’s about building forward. The
future of technology depends on diverse voices, inclusive spaces, and communities that
uplift one another.
As we continue to grow, DWKC remains dedicated to:
Supporting women at all stages of their digital careers
Creating meaningful connections and mentorship opportunities
Providing access to resources, education, and community
Join the Movement
This month, I invite you to reflect on your own journey and consider how you want to
grow within the digital space. Whether that means learning a new skill, attending an
event, or connecting with another member - every step counts.
Because when women support women in tech, we don’t just build careers - we build
community, opportunity, and lasting change.
